A magical place with unforgettable views

No boring facts, just stories that’ll keep you interested

A local town guide originally from the USA

"Thanks to Bryce, Český Krumlov was the highlight of our Europe trip.

The town is absolutely magical – stunning views, charming streets, and way fewer tourists than Prague. Bryce tailored the tour perfectly and finally helped us understand what life was like here after WWII, during communism, and especially after 1989.

A truly unforgettable experience!"

— Jessica M., Austin, Texas

The Story of Český Krumlov (12).png

Did you know...?

...that Česky Krumlov is a small town with less than 13,000 inhabitants?

...but that it is home to the 2nd largest castle complex in the country?

...that it's got the oldest and best preserved castle theater in the world?

...that the town's original medieval layout is nearly perfectly intact?

...that after WWII, it literally became a ghost town?

...that Český Krumlov was one of the first UNESCO sites in the Czech Republic?

...and did you know that Český Krumlov Castle and Chateau has been visited by every American Ambassador including Jennone Walker, her friend Madeleine Albright and even Prince Charles?

I'm pleased to reveal...

The Hidden Story of Český Krumlov

A Personalized 90-minute Walking Tour with a Florida Native Who’s Called It Home for 30+ Years

In a single day, you’ll:

01

– discover one of the largest and best-preserved castle complexes in all of Central Europe (note: tour of castle interiors and Castle Theater are not included in the Standard or Private Tour)

03

learn the history of Bohemia, Czechoslovakia, and Czechia before and after WWII and the communist regime

02

- stroll through the enchanting cobblestone streets of the old town

04

– get a true feeling of what life in Český Krumlov is like today, but with a familiar perspective

All this with a native-born American from Florida who decided to make this town his home here over 30 years ago.

❌ Wandering around town with your cell phone in hand, googling "what to see in Krumlov" and finding you've missed the best

❌ Walking around in a group of 30 people following a guide with a flag, where you can’t hear the commentary and you feel like you're on a school trip

❌ Uninteresting information that you can find online or in a history book

❌ "Traditional Czech restaurants" that have menus in five languages and overpriced, tasteless goulash

❌ Guides sent from Prague who never lived in Krumlov, speak in broken English, and have spouted the same dry historical data for the last 30 years without even knowing who they’re talking to.

❌ A wasted day that leaves you with sore feet and expensive souvenirs instead of experiences.

What you won't get:

What you can look forward to:

✅ A custom-made walk with a man who has lived here for over 30 years and knows what you’re truly interested in, without the unnecessary facts and boredom

Stories that will draw you in: about communism, the Velvet Revolution, and life in Europe through the eyes of an American

✅ The stories that can only come from living here: personal histories and the reason why you still won’t find a McDonald’s or Starbucks in Český Krumlov

✅ Unexpected views, catalogue-style photos and alleys that ordinary tourists usually miss

✅ A native-born Floridian who speaks your language, has a feel for what you're really interested in, knows how to keep your attention with a healthy mix of interesting history and local gossip, pulling you into the action while satisfying even the history buffs

✅ A day you'll remember for years to come: no stress, just relaxation and a true fairytale old-town experience.

How will your tour of Český Krumlov look?

1. Easy meet-up – with no searching and no stress

Whether you're coming to Krumlov for a day or planning to spend more time here, I make it easy to meet up:

✔ Taking the bus from Prague? I’ll pick you up at the bus station.

✔ Arriving by private transfer or a rental car? I'll meet you at the parking lot when you arrive.

✔ Are you staying in the old town? I can meet you directly at your hotel or B&B.

Only if you’re accommodated in the peripheral areas of Český Krumlov, then we’ll meet on the town square. There’s only one, so you won’t miss it.

2. A tour specially designed to fit your needs, taking into account your personal interests, your walking pace, and even the weather.

Every visitor is different, which makes each tour unique. I’ll adjust the route to your comfort level, the weather, and what you’re most interested in.

Together, we’ll explore:

✔ "the castle complex (note: tour of castle interiors and Castle Theater are not included in the Standard or Private Tour),

✔ the historical old town,

✔ the river meanders,

✔ and the cobblestone streets all the way to and from the town square.

I’ll show you

✔ the most beautiful viewpoints,

✔ the hidden places,

✔ and the buildings that each have their own magic and story.

I’ll tell you the things that don’t normally fit into a guided tour:
✔ What really happened here after the Second World War and how it changed everything
✔ What life was like under communism and what happened in 1989
Why you still won’t find a McDonald's or Starbucks here, even after 35 years
How it feels to live in Český Krumlov and Europe today

No dry history here, just stories that entertain, inspire, interest, and make you feel like you’re a part of it all.

3. The best things happen when you’re not in a hurry

At the end of my tour, you'll receive a personally created map with my tips:

 Good places to eat

✔ Great places to sit, enjoy a beer, and enjoy the view

✔ What you’ll still have time for before your bus or train leaves

I do recommend leaving yourself some free time after our tour to wander around the river, stroll through the cobblestone streets, and enjoy the town with a fresh unexpected perspective.

Because that’s when you’ll feel the historical and modern significance of Český Krumlov the most.

Tour guide, musician, translator

Lucky to be born in the US, glad to be living in Český Krumlov!

Hi, I'm Bryce – a native Floridian who has been living in Český Krumlov since 1995.

I first came to Prague in 1990, drawn by the post-revolution energy, and soon made the Czech Republic my home.

When our first child was on the way, we moved to Český Krumlov – a smaller, welcoming town full of charm. Since then, I’ve worked closely with local schools, museums, the castle, and the town itself, helping them with English, translation, and tourism.

As a licensed guide and professional translator, I’ve spent decades helping visitors discover the stories, secrets, and beauty of this UNESCO town.

I'm currently finishing my upcoming book Český Krumlov: A New Beginning, which captures many of the tales I share on my tours. Whether you're here for a quick visit or a deeper experience, I’d be happy to show you around my adopted hometown.

The Tours I offer:

at least 60 minutes, sit-down tour

Český Krumlov has a very special story that a typical walking tour won’t reveal, and it’s best told in a terrace café setting overlooking the Castle and Old Town (or the Museum, depending on the weather).

Learn about the town’s unique history that led up to the events of the Second World War and its surprising aftermath, its unique privatization and restitution process, and how the town resisted Starbucks and McDonalds after the Velvet Revolution.

Much of the story is based on my own experience from living here for over 30 years.

Café sitting tour €120 (drinks included)

at least 90 minutes

Discover Český Krumlov with a pleasant Walking Tour through the Old Town and Castle Courtyards (castle interiors not included).

Order a Private Walking Tour for yourself and your family or friends, or join other fellow travellers for a Shared Walking Tour (up to 6 people).

Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

1. Does the tour include transport from Prague or Vienna?

No, but I can advise you on the best way to get to Český Krumlov by train, bus or even private transfer.

2. Where should we meet?

If you’re just coming for the day, I can meet you up at the bus stop or car park. If you’re accommodated in the old town center, I can meet you at your hotel, B&B, or pension.

3. How long does a tour last?

The standard tour lasts 90 minutes,  but I can adjust it to your pace and schedule.

4. How many people in a group?

I prefer small groups. That way we can all hear each other well, there’s room for questions, we can walk comfortably through the town and around the castle, and we don't have to constantly wait or count for someone.
The standard group size is maximum 4 people.

Would you like to enjoy a tour with just the two of you, for example as a couple, or two friends? Choose a private tour that suits your preferences.

If there are more of you, no problem. I can also organize large groups of 50 tourists (one US university even sends me about 150 students several times per year!). Email me directly and I’ll put something together for you.

5. Is the walking tour demanding?

Don't worry, I’ll adapt the route and pace to your fitness level. Co, however, expect a slight climb up to the castle and cobblestone streets in the old town. I recommend comfortable shoes and no high heels.

6. Are you really fluent in English?

Yes, but be warned! I may be fluent, but after 30 years of living here, I tend to speak too correctly sometimes (and I still use slang from the 80s 😉).

7. What if it rains?

We'll adapt the tour – the city is magical even in the rain. I have alternatives and places under shelter that we can make use of.

8. Will there be room for photos or coffee?

Of course. We can make stop for photos, great viewpoints, and I know some of the best coffee places in town.

9. Will I get any info on how to spend the rest of the day?

Absolutely – I'll leave you with my personal map with tips on food, views, cafes and hidden spots.

10. Is it possible to book a tour at the last minute?

Try emailing me – if I'm free, I’ll be happy to take you on the same day. I just have to make sure to get my kids to their extracurricular activities on time.
